Christopher Robin Milne, son of A.A. Milne author of "Winnie the Pooh", was born on 21 August 1920 in Chelsea, London.
A.A. Milne got his inspiration for "Winnie the Pooh" from his son Christopher's toys. Christopher received a teddy bear for his first birthday called Edward Bear. It was renamed Winnie-the-Pooh after a Canadian black bear at London Zoo called Winnipeg and a swan in West Sussex called Pooh. Eeyore, Piglet, Tigger, Kanga and Roo were also stuffed toys of Christopher's.
Ogden Nash wrote a poem which speculates on the infant Christopher Robin Milne's view of being the source of so much of his father's inspiration.
ReplyDeleteMy Daddy (by Ogden Nash)
I have a funny daddy
Who goes in and out with me
And everything that baby does
My daddy’s sure to see,
And everything that baby says,
My daddy’s sure to tell.
You must have read my daddy’s verse.
I hope he fries in hell.
